Is Pika Free? What the Free Plan Gives You (and What It Doesn't)
Is Pika free? Yes, the Basic plan costs nothing, but caps output at 480p, stamps a watermark on downloads, and bars any commercial use.

TL;DR — Yes, Pika has a free plan called Basic that costs nothing and gives you 80 video credits a month, runs Pika 2.5 at 480p only, puts a watermark on every video you download, and grants no commercial rights. Those 80 credits buy you six 5-second clips each month. It's fine for testing the prompt box, but you can't use the files for client projects or clean public posts.
Free is the bold word sitting on Pika's pricing card, but the real limits hide several clicks away. One of those limits is that you can't use anything you generate on the free tier for work. Here's the whole free plan laid out on one page, read straight from Pika's pricing page on 26 August 2026.

What the free plan actually gives you
Pika's free tier is called the Basic plan, and it costs $0. Here is what's included when you sign in:
- 80 monthly video credits (the tokens each generation spends)
- Access to Pika 2.5 at 480p resolution
- Pikascenes, Pikadditions, Pikaswaps and Pikatwists
- Pikaffects, but image-to-video only
You can try the generator without entering a card.
Where the free plan stops
The Basic card on Pika's pricing page carries a cross next to three specific lines. You don't get watermark-free downloads, you don't get commercial rights, and you can't buy extra rollover credits. Pikaffects is image-to-video only, so the video-to-video version isn't on the free plan.
Commercial rights don't come with the free plan. Pika's terms of service grant a personal license:
a limited, nonexclusive, nontransferable, nonsublicensable, revocable license to access and use the Service solely for your personal, noncommercial use—except where your subscription Plan expressly permits commercial use.
If you run out of credits on Basic, you're stuck until the next monthly reset. You can't buy top-up packs on the free tier because buying extra credits needs a paid plan.
Unused plan credits don't carry over between billing cycles, either. If you need clean, unwatermarked clips without a subscription lock, tools like Seedance 2.5 AI Video Maker offer different balance options.

How many clips 80 credits buys
Pika 2.5 generates text-to-video and image-to-video clips in two durations only: 5 seconds or 10 seconds. On the free tier, you can only generate at 480p resolution.
Here is what generations cost on the Basic plan:
- A 5-second text-to-video or image-to-video clip at 480p costs 12 credits.
- A 10-second text-to-video or image-to-video clip at 480p costs 24 credits.
- A 5-second Pikaffects image-to-video clip costs 15 credits.
- A Pikascenes, Pikadditions, or Pikaswaps generation costs 20 credits at 480p.
- A Pikatwists generation costs 60 credits.
So what does your 80-credit monthly balance actually buy? You can create six 5-second clips at 480p, or five Pikaffects clips, or four Pikascenes clips, or one Pikatwists clip with 20 credits left over.
Higher resolutions like 720p (20 credits for a 5-second clip) and 1080p (40 credits for a 5-second clip) are marked Paid on the pricing card. You can't pick them on Basic. We broke down the seven steps and what each one spends so you can plan your balance carefully.

The paid plan that still watermarks your video
The biggest surprise on Pika's pricing page sits on the very first paid tier. The Standard plan costs $8 a month when billed yearly, or $10 a month when billed monthly, and gives you 700 monthly credits.
There's also a weekly Standard option at $8.99 a week for 175 credits. Four weeks of the weekly Standard plan buys the same 700 credits as one month of monthly Standard, at roughly 3.6 times the price.
But even if you pay for Standard, the watermark stays on your video. Standard still carries the same two crosses next to watermark-free downloads and commercial use.
Pika's support page states Basic and Standard include a watermark: "The Basic and Standard plans include a watermark on your outputs and don't grant commercial rights. The Pro and Fancy plans have no watermark and grant lifetime commercial use."
To get clean exports and commercial rights, you must jump to Pro ($28 a month billed yearly, or $35 monthly) or Fancy ($76 a month yearly, or $95 monthly). We compared six platforms we checked against their own pricing pages to show where clean downloads actually begin across different tools.
Three rules people find out late
There are three rules on Pika's platform that catch you off guard:
- The free queue runs slower during peak hours. Pika's support team notes that free generations can take time when traffic is heavy, and refreshing your browser or restarting the app won't speed up a queued job.
- Upgrading your plan doesn't clean up old videos. Pika's support docs explain that watermark removal only applies to videos created after you upgrade. If you made a clip on Basic, you must spend credits to generate it again on Pro to get a clean file.
- Direct share links always show a watermark. A video shared straight from Pika carries a watermark on every tier, paid ones included.
Where Pika's own pages disagree
When we checked Pika's site, two of Pika's pages don't agree. Pika's FAQ states that Basic gives 150 credits every month. But the live pricing page states Basic gives 80 credits.
The FAQ also refers to Pika 2.2 as "our latest model" and lists credit costs from the 2.2 release. The pricing page and the live generator both list Pika 2.5.
We used the 80-credit figure from the pricing page throughout this guide because it matches what the active generator displays. We read Pika's pricing page, FAQ, support pages and terms of service on 26 August 2026, logged out. We did not create a Pika account.
Two outside scores exist and they don't agree either. Trustpilot rates Pika 1.7 out of 5 from 67 reviews on a profile Trustpilot marks unclaimed and flags as possibly unrepresentative, while Pika's own iOS app rates 4.7 out of 5 from 3,814 ratings.
Neither score is a verdict on the free plan, which is what this page is about.
