charme dance AI is the AI video trend built on the viral Seu Zé de Madureira charme clip from Rio. People use AI to put themselves, a friend, their grandma or a cartoon character in the dancer's place at the packed Pedra do Sal street party, while the crowd, the camera and the sound stay. People also call it baile charme AI, the Seu Zé de Madureira dance, the Pedra do Sal AI dance and the Van Damme charme dance.
The TikTok account @seuzerj posted the original clip on October 16, 2026. In it, Seu Zé de Madureira, an AI-made grandpa character with a white afro, round glasses and a red shirt with suspenders, out-dances a packed night crowd at Pedra do Sal, a historic spot in Rio de Janeiro. The caption reads "Ninguém botou fé no vovô no baile charme", Portuguese for "Nobody believed in grandpa at the baile charme". It is one continuous handheld phone shot under big white floodlights, with colonial buildings, blue market tents and a man in a white tank top and brown hat dancing along at his shoulder. The clip runs 27 seconds, and its first 15 seconds are built into our charme dance AI generator.
The first AI remakes, on October 13, 2026, put 80s action-movie stars in the same kind of floodlit Rio square, with Van Damme in a denim shirt among them. The Seu Zé clip followed on October 16, 2026. On October 18, 2026 a one-photo template went up and passed 238,000 uses by October 20, 2026. Tutorials in Spanish, Portuguese and English followed, the biggest past 740,000 plays. On TikTok, #vandammebailando has 2,054 videos and 9.1 million views.
You make your own with one photo of yourself, a friend, family or a character, and only the dancer changes. The crowd, the man in the white tank top, the floodlights, every charme move and the sound stay.

charme is the style. It is a street dance style that began in Brazil in the early 1980s. Like baile funk, it grew out of the 1970s bailes black, the Black Rio parties that played soul, funk and R&B. In the 1980s baile charme took the smoother side, with contemporary R&B and love songs, and baile funk took the fast, high-energy beats. Tutorials on TikTok call the trend "retro Brazilian funk", and the dance in the clip is charme: smooth side steps, bouncing shoulders and relaxed hands.
Baile charme is Rio's charme dance party. DJ Corello gave charme its name in Rio de Janeiro in 1980. Rio's best-known baile charme fills the space under the Madureira viaduct, where it has run since the early 1990s, and in 2013 the city of Rio de Janeiro declared it part of its intangible cultural heritage. The viral clip is set at Pedra do Sal, a historic spot in Rio's Saúde neighborhood and a home of samba, and the original post says Seu Zé went for a spin at Pedra do Sal but grew up at the Madureira viaduct.
