Seedance 2.5 Reference Video Not Working? 7 Checks When Your White Model Is Ignored
Seedance 2.5 reference video not working? It fails three ways: refused, rejected, or billed and ignored. Seven checks, cheapest first, from our own runs.
The team behind Seadanse. We run the models we write about, and we publish the specs, prices and limits the marketing leaves out.

TL;DR — A Seedance 2.5 reference video fails in three ways: refused on upload, rejected by the model, or accepted, billed, and ignored. Seven checks tell you which failure you've hit, starting with the 2-to-30-second clip length and the 24-to-60-frames-a-second range. The third one's the expensive one: the run succeeds, the credits go, and your camera move isn't in the take.
Your clip uploaded, the take finished, and the camera did something else. Or it was refused, and nothing told you which part of it was wrong.
On r/Seedance_AI, SeaworthinessSlow612 spent three days trying to get one clip done: "either it says copyright issues or it makes an unusable generation."
Google's summary answers one branch of that: content checks. But a white model — what most creators call a blockout — has no face and no audio to check.
Work out which of the three failures you have
What you saw tells you which branch you're in: no job at all, a job that failed, or a job that finished and ignored you.
- Refused before it runs: The add-on measures the clip and won't submit one outside its caps. You get no job, so you spend nothing.
- Rejected after it runs: A job exists and comes back failed. Its credits come back automatically.
- Accepted and ignored: A job finishes, shows success, bills you, and leaves your camera move out of the take.
The same split shows up elsewhere — see Higgsfield not working. For what each step controls, start with the Seedance 2.5 Blender workflow.

Run e8bf0f5f, Seedance 2.0 Mini on Seadanse, 480p, 5 s, 7 September 2026. The run reported success and was billed: the prompt survived, but the missing clip cost the silhouette, the staging, and the camera angle.
Run these seven checks, cheapest first
Check the clip length against the model you picked
Seedance 2.5 takes clips of 2 to 30 seconds.
Switch to Seedance 2.0 Mini and the ceiling drops to 15. That turns a legal 20-second clip illegal without you touching the file.

Blender 5.2.1 LTS on macOS, 10 September 2026. The panel prints the clip length and file size right next to the selected model before you submit.
Check the frame rate and the pixel size
The published schema takes 24 to 60 frames a second and 300 to 6,000 pixels a side.
A playblast at 12 or 15 fps is outside that range before any content check runs.

Blender 5.2.1 LTS on macOS, 10 September 2026. Output settings showing 1280 × 720 resolution, 24 fps frame rate, H.264 video codec, and no audio track.
Check the container and the codec, not the file name
Export an mp4 or mov encoded in H.264. Our add-on writes one straight from your scene camera.
A file name isn't a codec, so check the encoding, not the extension.
Limit total assets, and count the ones you actually have
Count what you can actually attach, not what the spec sheets add up to.
- Reference clips: Up to 10 on Seedance 2.5, 30 seconds combined. Up to 3 on Seedance 2.0 Mini, 15 seconds combined.
- Appearance images: Up to 30 on Seedance 2.5, 9 on Seedance 2.0 Mini. They don't add cost.
- Reference audio: Not wired for Seedance on Seadanse at all, so describe voices instead of copying them.
Remove the audio, and blur any faces
Google's summary tells you to remove the audio and blur any faces. That's worth doing, and it's two of the four causes it names.
But a clay pass is a flat grey video of your scene: no audio, no faces. If yours still comes back refused, your answer's in one of the other six checks.
Refine your prompt structure so the clip has a job
Say in the prompt that the reference video is an untextured grey white model, and ask for its camera path, framing and blocking.
Then say what each grey shape becomes; our Seedance 2.5 prompt guide has the wording.
Check that the clip actually reached the model
Our first two runs, e8bf0f5f and 5f42df08, came back marked success and we paid for both. The reference video never reached the provider — a request-field mismatch on our side, now fixed.
There was no error to read. The only tell was a take with none of our camera move in it. So attach the clip where you can see it: the Seedance 2.5 Blender add-on lists its length and size, and the web composer shows it in the reference slot.

When Seedance 2.5 followed your white model and it still looks wrong
In runs 57d24591 and ed811a27 the take followed our motion but framed it tighter, cropping the fighters' feet out. Build the clay pass wider than you want the take.
Asking a model to follow a clip is creative direction, not a rebuilt camera. But it's still the only thing that can keep the camera move you keyframed — a prompt can't say where your camera starts and stops.

Run 57d24591, Seedance 2.0 Mini on Seadanse, 480p, 10 s, 7 September 2026. The take cropped both figures above the knee during the opening and again from 6 seconds to the end.
Try it with the clip's length in front of you
The Blender add-on for Seedance 2.5 makes the clay pass and shows its length, size and credit quote before you commit. It's a self-hosted zip, not a listing on Blender's extensions platform.
Prefer no install? Run Seedance 2.5 on the web with free starter credits and no card needed. Or compare every way to run Seedance 2.5 from Blender first.
Name the failure before you re-roll
Name the branch first: refused, rejected, or accepted and ignored. A re-roll costs again, and it won't fix a clip that never arrived.
We paid for every run named here, on real Blender in September 2026, and we kept the ones that went wrong.
