The AI Cupid trend is the AI video trend where Cupid, the winged god of love with his bow, dives at someone to shoot them with his arrow, and they knock him out of the air with a handbag and walk off, unbothered. People also call the trend Cupid fails AI, "Not today, Cupid" and Cupid vs handbag.
The trend started in late August 2026 with a black-and-white sketch animation on TikTok, captioned "Not today Cupid", that showed a woman batting Cupid away with her handbag: "Aim somewhere else!". On September 2, 2026, a TikTok post from Argentina, captioned "le dimos una paliza a cupido" ("we gave Cupid a beating"), turned it into a photoreal AI video and passed 319,000 views. On October 11, 2026, an Instagram reel set it on the square in front of a Gothic cathedral, with Cupid diving off a ledge and a black handbag, and it had more than 641,000 likes and 14,000 comments on October 31, 2026.
The skit follows a clear comic sequence. Cupid aims from a high cathedral ledge, dives and swoops in. The woman swings her handbag and knocks him out of the air. He lands flat on his back in a burst of white feathers. She fixes her hair, picks up her bag and walks toward the camera, calm and a little proud. A slow romantic love theme plays until the hit and stops there.
People make their own versions with one photo of themselves as the one who swings the handbag. Users post the clip as their answer to Cupid, "Not today, Cupid", on Instagram Reels and TikTok.
