What Is the Charme Dance AI Trend? (Seu Zé, Real vs AI)
The charme dance AI trend: Seu Zé, an AI-made grandpa dancing charme at Pedra do Sal in Rio, posted October 16, 2026, and you in his place from one photo.
The team behind Seadanse. We run the models we write about, and we publish the specs, prices and limits the marketing leaves out.

TL;DR — The charme dance AI trend is the viral TikTok trend of October 2026 where people use AI to take the dancer's place in one clip from a Rio street party.
That clip went up on October 16, 2026. In it, Seu Zé de Madureira, an AI-made grandpa, dances charme in a packed night crowd at Pedra do Sal, a real square in Rio.
The dance is charme, a smooth Rio street dance from the early 1980s. A one-photo CapCut template of the trend reached 238,309 uses by October 20, 2026.
On Seadanse's Charme Dance AI, one photo gets you the first 15 seconds of that clip with you as the dancer, the same crowd and its original sound.
Your feed's full of the same packed square in Rio at night. You see the floodlights, the blue tents, and the man in the white tank top and brown hat.
There's a new dancer in the middle every time, from Van Damme in a denim shirt to an AI grandpa or Spider-Man.
The comments under these clips keep asking the same things. They want to know who the grandpa is, whether it's real, where the party is, and what song is playing.
Most of all, they ask how to make one with their own photo.
We traced the trend to its first posts, went through the clip frame by frame, and made our own video.
Here's who Seu Zé is, and what's real and what's AI. You'll also see where the square is, why it's charme and not funk, what the song is, and how you can make yours.
What Is the Charme Dance AI Trend?
The charme dance AI trend is a viral video style where AI swaps a new dancer into one clip. That clip shows an AI grandpa dancing at a Rio street party.
You add one still photo, and the tool makes a video of that person doing the exact dance routine.
- What it does: You add one photo, and AI puts that person in the dancer's place in the Seu Zé clip. The crowd, the floodlights, every move and the sound stay.
- Popular styles and references: Creators use 80s action stars like Van Damme in a denim shirt, and movie characters like Spider-Man and Harry Potter. The original is Seu Zé the grandpa himself, dancing charme at Pedra do Sal in Rio.
- Where to find it: People share the videos on TikTok under #BaileCharme, #VanDammeBailando and #TendenciaIACapCut, and the original clip lives on the @seuzerj account.
In the versions made from the Seu Zé clip, only the dancer changes. That contrast is the whole joke, summed up by the original caption: "Ninguém botou fé no vovô no baile charme" (Nobody believed in grandpa at the baile charme).
We made the video below on October 20, 2026 from one photo of an AI-made man in a cream T-shirt and black jeans. He isn't a real person.
You can make the same video with your own photo on Seadanse's charme dance AI generator.
What Happens in a Charme Dance AI Video, Second by Second?
A charme dance AI video made on Seadanse is 15 seconds of one unbroken handheld phone shot. It runs from a glance back at the phone to a turn back to the camera.
We went through ours frame by frame, and here's every part of the routine.
Look back at the phone
At about 0.5 seconds, the dancer stands right at the lens and glances back at the phone. You can see the white floodlights and the crowd behind him.

Groove with the crowd
At about 2.5 seconds, he faces the camera and grooves with small side steps and bouncing shoulders. By about 4 seconds, the man in the white tank top and brown hat starts dancing right at his shoulder.

Lean in for the charme step
At about 7.5 seconds, he leans forward smoothly, sliding his hands past each other at waist height while keeping the beat.

Turn back to the camera
At about 10.5 seconds, he turns toward the crowd, next to the man with long braids and a shell necklace. Then he turns back to the camera to finish the routine.

You'll find those four moments under the same names on Seadanse's page: Look back, Groove, Lean in and Turn.
Who Is Seu Zé de Madureira in the Charme Dance AI Trend?
Seu Zé de Madureira is an AI-made grandpa character from the TikTok account @seuzerj. He isn't a real man, and he isn't a song.
He's got a big white afro and round glasses, and he wears a red shirt with suspenders and a small bag at his waist.
The @seuzerj account posted the clip on October 16, 2026 as a 27-second continuous handheld phone shot.
By October 20, 2026, the upload had 104,600 plays and 3,140 likes. Every video on the profile is made with AI.
The post's caption includes the line "Marca aquele amigo que só dança charme depois da meia-noite" (Tag that friend who only dances charme after midnight). It also ends with the credit line "Original: @iae.zenegao".
Comments under the post filled up quickly with curious viewers. The top comment asks "onde faz este video" (where do you make this video). It's from someone who wanted to make one with their own photo.
Another viewer wrote "eu quando me aposentar" (me when I retire).
People also mistake Seu Zé for a song title. TikTok suggests searches like "música do seu zé" (Seu Zé's song).
And when you search his name on Google, the top results point to "São José de Madureira". That's a samba by Beth Carvalho featuring Zeca Pagodinho, and it's got nothing to do with this trend.
Is the Charme Dance AI Trend Real or AI?
Both: the party at Pedra do Sal is real, and the dancer in the viral clip is made with AI.
Pedra do Sal is a real place in Rio, but the Seu Zé clip is an AI video, and so is every version made from it.
Zenegão (@zenegaooficial), a real charme dancer, posted himself dancing in the packed Pedra do Sal crowd at night on August 7, 2026. That post reached 1.6 million plays and 275,300 likes.
Its top comment, with 23,018 likes, says "na internet a pedra do sal é tao poética" (on the internet, Pedra do Sal is so poetic).
The AI side took off from October 13, 2026 onward, leading up to the Seu Zé clip where an AI character took center stage.
| Clip | Posted | Real or AI | Who's dancing | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zenegão at Pedra do Sal | August 7, 2026 | Real | Zenegão, a real charme dancer | The packed night party at Pedra do Sal is real |
| "mercenários no baile charme" | October 13, 2026 | AI | Look-alikes of Van Damme, Schwarzenegger and Stallone | The first AI remake we found, with 80s action stars |
| Seu Zé de Madureira by @seuzerj | October 16, 2026 | AI | An AI-made grandpa | The clip everyone puts a new dancer into |
| CapCut template "Ty" | October 18, 2026 | AI | Whoever is in your photo | The one-photo template the tutorials point to |
| Seadanse's Charme Dance AI | October 20, 2026 | AI, from your photo | You, a friend, family or a character | The first 15 seconds of the Seu Zé clip, with you as the dancer |
We read all five on October 20, 2026.
We also checked 16 TikTok remakes frame by frame that day. Eight of them are the Seu Zé clip itself from the first second, with only the dancer changed. The other eight are new scenes made to look like the same square.
Here's the one photo that went into our video and the same man in three frames of it.

If you'd like to explore how prompts shape these scenes, check out our charme dance AI prompt guide. It shows the prompt word for word.
Where Is the Party in the Charme Dance AI Trend?
The party in the charme dance AI trend is at Pedra do Sal, a real square in Rio de Janeiro's Saúde neighborhood.
It's recognized as a historic and religious site in Rio de Janeiro. It was originally a quilombo (a village founded by people who escaped slavery).
INEPAC, Rio de Janeiro state's cultural heritage institute, recognized the site in 1984. It's still a historic center of samba and choro music.
The Seu Zé caption connects the two places by noting "O Seu Zé deu um rolé na Pedra do Sal, mas é cria do Viaduto de Madureira!" (Seu Zé went for a spin at Pedra do Sal, but he grew up at the Madureira viaduct!).
Rio's best-known baile charme (a charme dance party) runs under the Madureira viaduct, known as the Viaduto Negrão de Lima. The Espaço Rio Charme opened there in 1993.
DW calls it the oldest and largest party of its kind. If you go on a Saturday night, you'll find thousands of people dancing to R&B there.
Choreographer Eduardo Gonçalves told DW that "Up to 5,000 people come to dance here every weekend, since 1994". In 2013, Rio's mayor at the time, Eduardo Paes, declared the Madureira party part of the city's intangible cultural heritage.
Viewers online feel that energy right away. Under Zenegão's duo clip from September 24, 2026, the top comment, with 1,119 likes, asks "Onde é esse paraíso?" (Where is this paradise?).
In a Seadanse video, you'll see the square just as it is in the clip.

Is the Charme Dance AI Trend Funk or Charme?
The dance in the charme dance AI trend is charme. It isn't funk.
Charme began in Brazil in the early 1980s. It grew as an offshoot of the 1970s bailes black (Black parties: soul, funk and R&B) during the Black Rio movement.
During the 1980s, the Brazilian party scene split into two directions. Baile charme embraced smooth R&B and love songs, while baile funk chose fast, high-energy rhythms driven by Miami bass beats.
DJ Corello coined the name on March 8, 1980 at a baile at the Mackenzie club in Méier. That's when he said "Chegou a hora do charminho" (It's time for the little charme).
Dancers at these parties practice passinhos (little steps), moving together in synchronized group routines.
Many TikTok tutorials call the trend "retro Brazilian funk". Under one Portuguese tutorial, a commenter stated clearly: "isso é charme não funk" (this is charme, not funk).
Our frame-by-frame review shows the classic charme moves you'll see throughout the routine:
- Side steps: The dancer takes small, smooth steps to the side, bringing the other foot in close on the beat.
- Shoulders: The shoulders roll and bounce gently in time with the music.
- Hands: The forearms swing loose in front of the hips, and during the forward lean, the hands slide past each other at waist level.
- The glance: The routine opens with a relaxed, cool glance back at the phone camera.
How Did the Charme Dance AI Trend Start and Spread?
The charme dance AI trend started with real party videos at Pedra do Sal and turned into an AI trend in October 2026.
Here's how it moved from a real Rio dance circle to an online video phenomenon, date by date:
- August 7, 2026: Zenegão posts himself dancing in the packed Pedra do Sal crowd.
- September 24, 2026: Zenegão dances there again with a friend side by side, gathering 472,200 plays.
- October 13, 2026: The account @rafagalvao85 uploads the first AI remake we found, featuring look-alikes of Van Damme in a denim shirt, Schwarzenegger and Stallone in the square.
- October 16, 2026: The @seuzerj account posts the Seu Zé de Madureira clip.
- October 18, 2026: A one-photo CapCut template called "Ty" goes up, and Spanish and Portuguese tutorials follow, with the largest Spanish tutorial reaching 743,900 plays by October 20.
- October 19, 2026: English tutorials follow, with the largest hitting 199,600 plays.
- October 20, 2026: The template passes 238,309 uses.
Hashtag counts show how the trend spreads across different terms. On TikTok, #bailecharme has 16,472 videos and 188.6 million views, mostly from real parties.
But #charmedanceai has just 5 videos. So people make the trend without tagging it by that specific name.
The mobile templates haven't worked smoothly for everyone. We read 135 written comments under six tutorials.
Of those, 17 say the template doesn't work or won't show the button. And 10 say it asks them to pay ("tem que pagar", you have to pay).
You'll see why those issues happen in our guide to the charme dance CapCut template.
What Song Is in the Charme Dance AI Trend?
The song in the Seu Zé clip is the party itself: the clip's own music and crowd, labelled "som original - seuzerj" (original sound) on TikTok. Zenegão's posts use their own live ambient sound as well.
Most CapCut tutorials of the trend add "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice from TikTok's sound library when they post their results.
That leaves people guessing. You'll see comments like "nome dessa música ??" (what's this song called??) under the Seu Zé clip and "alguém sabe o nome dessa música?" (does anyone know this song's name?) under tutorials.
Every charme dance AI video you make on Seadanse keeps the clip's original sound from the first second.

Why Is Van Damme in the Charme Dance AI Trend?
Van Damme is in the charme dance AI trend because of the first AI remake we found. On October 13, 2026, it put a Van Damme look-alike in a denim shirt in the floodlit Rio square. After that, the remakes kept coming.
On TikTok, #vandammebailando reached 2,054 videos and 9.1 million views. The search bar now suggests "van damme dance ai", "van damme dance template", "van damme dance filter" and "van damme dance original".
Viral remakes put famous faces in the same crowd, including these:
- Action stars: Stallone, Schwarzenegger and Chuck Norris.
- Movie and TV characters: Don Ramón, Harry Potter and Spider-Man.
- A footballer and a painting: Neymar and the Mona Lisa.
The top Spanish tutorial opens with a shirtless Rambo look-alike followed by a Van Damme look-alike.
It's the same humor as the caption's original joke about grandpa: an unexpected character turns out to have the smoothest dance moves in the square.
On Seadanse's Charme Dance AI, your face, hair and whole outfit come from your photo. If you're after an 80s action look, put on a denim shirt and take a photo.
You can put any of these in the clip, with one person per photo:
- Yourself: Add one photo of you.
- A friend or family member: Any adult, 18 or older.
- A character: A cartoon, game or AI-made character works too.
If you'd like a custom design, you can build a character first in our AI character sheet generator.
Here's an illustration showing the idea with a grandmother dancing in the crowd.
